Six additions to a winning squad

The summer transfer window closed with Valencia CF having added six new players to their ranks for the 2019/20 campaign

Six new faces have joined the Valencia CF squad this summer, adding to an established side that earned Champions League football and the Copa del Rey last season. Whilst there is the same quality as in 2018/19, coach Marcelino has a half dozen players who have arrived motivated to achieve big things at Mestalla.

Jasper Cillesen
One of the earlier additions to the squad, Cillessen was signed from FC Barcelona at the end of June. The goalkeeper played 3 seasons for the Catalan side, and was their first choice shot stopper for cup competitions.
So far, the Dutchman has played in all three matchdays of the 2019/20 campaign.

Eliaquim Mangala
As Marcelino looked to further strengthen the defence, the club looked to their recent past for a familiar player. Frenchman Eliaquim Mangala, who had previously played 33 games during a loan spell from Manchester City in 2016/17, gets a permanent move as he looks to impress upon his return. The muscular centre back is still only 28, and is determined to put injury problems behind him and form part of a formidable defensive line.

Jaume Costa
Another man enjoying a second spell at Valencia CF is Jaume Costa, who has come in on loan from Villarreal. The full back knows the club inside out from his time in the VCF Academy, as well as having made an appearance for the first team in a UEFA Europa League game against Brugge in 2008. The Spaniard hopes that his familiarity with the club's style and values help him with a smooth adaptation to a squad in which everyone will need to be on form.

Manu Vallejo
Manu Vallejo was signed by Valencia CF back in the winter transfer window, but was allowed to remain at Cadiz CF until the summer as the Southern Spanish side pushed for promotion to LaLiga. They may have fallen short, but it was a stunning year for Vallejo, who scored one of the goals of the season.  To cap it, he -alongside new teammate Carlos Soler- was part of Spain's Under-21s European Championships winning side this past July, making a brief appearance in the game against Poland.

Maxi Gómez
In Valencia CF's quest for goals in 2019/20, they will be aided by the addition of one of the standout imports from South American football in recent years. Already acclimatised to LaLiga after two seasons and 30 goals, striker Maxi Gómez was on target in preseason and is unlikely to take long to make his mark at Mestalla.

Thierry Correia
An injury to Cristiano Piccini meant that a new right back was required in the squad, and Valencia CF moved quickly to pick up a promising young talent. Thierry Correia is a product of the Sporting CP youth system in Portugal, and is being spoken about as a player with a great future ahead. The fullback was a deadline day signing, joining on a five-year deal.
